We are excited to welcome one of our newest Connect members, Mylissa Williams. Mylissa is an accountant and owner of Williams Solid Solutions. She joined us in January and we are lucky to have her apart of our Connect family. Get to know a little more about Mylissa below!
Where are you from and if not originally from Bradenton, when and why did you move to this area?
I am from Sarasota, FL. I moved to Manatee County in 2014. I was in the Air Force and worked at MacDill AFB in Tampa. I purchased my home in Ellenton because it was closer to Tampa than Sarasota.
How did you get into accounting?
The Air Force made us take a career aptitude test and my results mentioned bookkeeping and accounting careers. I did some research and it was love at first sight.
What do you love most about your work?
I love helping businesses keep their finances in order because, through my documentation and analysis, I can usually find many more tax deductibles for my clients to take advantage of. I have never had a business client audited, and I love the challenge of gathering a business’s financial documents, files, and income sheets to piece together the information I need to save them money on their tax bill. I also love teaching businesses how to organize their financial information. I helped a past client make sense of rather disorganized financial reports, receipts, files, and documents and recorded each piece of information in QuickBooks so the client could efficiently prepare their taxes.
How did you hear about Connect Bradenton?
I worked out of my home office for three years. My business and team has grown rapidly and I needed a bigger office space. I found Connect Bradenton on Google.
What do you like most about being located in the heart of downtown Bradenton?
You are steps away from the clerk of courts/local government offices, and there’s a variety of breakfast and lunch options to choose from. I also love that it is close to my home and my children’s school.
What do you like most about working inside Connect Bradenton?
I love my office. The application process was very easy, and the staff here is very welcoming. I also like that rent is one flat fee and comes with many amenities. For example, utilities and furniture is included. I love that the building is secured and has cameras. There is a receptionist and café available at no additional charge. I still can’t believe I am able to afford this office. My clients love it. It’s a great representation.
What is one general tip or piece of advice that people should know regarding tax season?
Keep your personal and business transactions separate. When you start a business regardless if it’s registered with the State, open a separate bank account in your personal name. QuickBooks online is also a great system to use if you plan on doing your bookkeeping yourself. This system allows you to connect your bank account and will track all your transactions. When tax time comes around and you need assistance, you can give QuickBooks access to your tax professional. This will cut down hours of looking through bank statements, excel spreadsheets, invoices, and receipts. Which in return will save you tons of money from your tax professional for billable bookkeeping hours.
